The mission of Jefferson Forest High School is to provide the best possible opportunities to meet the educational needs of each student in a safe, well-equipped, well-maintained, and supportive environment where students, staff, parents, and community members are involved in all aspects of school life. High expectations regarding academic achievement, critical and creative thinking skills, integrity, fairness, and equality will be emphasized in order to maximize educational opportunities for each student.

This year, Newsweek’s ranking highlights the best 1,000 public high schools in the nation—the ones that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads.
The list is based on six components provided by school administrators: graduation rate (25 percent), college matriculation rate (25 percent), AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent), and AP courses offered per student(5 percent).

For the third year in a row JF has made this prestigious list, improving our ranking each year. In his letter announcing our inclusion on the High School Challenge list, Jay Mathews of The Washington Post said JF’s “… appearance on this list means that you are trying much harder than most schools to expose your students to the demands of college”
