Driver's Education

The classroom portion of Driver Education is completed during the first semester of 10th grade Health/PE. After passing the 36-hour course, attending the 90 minute Parent/Teen Driving Program and having a minimum of 30 hours logged in their 45-hour log during the Learner Permit stage, students are then able to complete the in-car instruction called Behind the Wheel (privately or through JFHS).
Behind the Wheel takes place either before school (6:45-8:15) or after school (4:00-5:30) for seven days. We do offer weekends, if needed. Holidays/breaks are excluded. We also offer it in the Summer. The cost is $262 and we now use an online payment process.

Our first session of Behind the Wheel for 2023-2024 school year is September 4th-15th. They run every two weeks and around holidays/breaks.

The registration process goes through Mrs. Dooley in room 2003E. Students will need to pick up an application from Mrs. Dooley in room 2003E BEFORE OR AFTER school. They will need to bring it home, fill it out and then bring it back to Mrs. Dooley. Please email Mrs. Dooley for further information at [email protected].va.us

As of July 1st, 2022, students AND parents/guardians HAVE to attend a 90 minute parent/teen driving program. We offer this twice at JFHS in the auditorium at 6:30pm. This first offering is September 7th and the second offering is February 22nd. Students and parents/guardians MUST attend one of these offerings to do behind the wheel after completion/passing Driver's Education Course. These are our only 2 offerings this year. If you miss both of them this year you will have to wait until next year. There is not another option to complete this requirement.
