Central Virginia Governor's School for Science & Technology - Students at CVGS conduct original research projects, use modern equipment and software, participate in an award winning internship program, and pursue a rigorous academic curriculum. The CVGS curriculum is designed for gifted and talented students. Students participate in sophisticated science laboratories, long-term assignments, independent research, and group work in both labs and on projects. Students can earn up to 21 college credits for their CVGS classes. 

Information Sessions for Students and Parents are scheduled for January 25, 2024 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Bedford Early College - Qualified high school juniors can complete their last two years of high school at the CVCC Bedford Center and earn an Associate Degree (62 college credits) in General Studies at the same time as their high school diplomas. Credits are transferable to all Virginia public and many private colleges and universities as well as out of state colleges.

STEM XLR8 - XLR8 Lynchburg Regional Governor’s STEM Academy is the 16th regional Governor’s STEM Academy offering programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Health Care (subjects known collectively as “STEM”) for high school juniors and seniors. XLR8, located on the CVCC campus, offers academic and technical training related to careers in engineering, mechatronics, biotechnology, health science, and cyber security. The “Project Lead The Way” (PLTW) curriculum has been designed to promote critical thinking, creativity, innovation, and real-world problem-solving skills for students. The hands-on, project-based program engages students on multiple levels and provides them with a foundation and proven path to college and career readiness while earning up to 44 college credits.

NCAA Students interested in playing sports at the Div. I or II level should register during their sophomore year at eligibilitycenter.org.

Summer Residential Governor’s School ( sophomores and juniors)

  • Must rank at or above the 80 percentile on recent standardized test or
  • Possess a C average for the last grade completed or
  • Have a letter of commendation from a teacher who feels the student would qualify if not for an unusual situation or circumstance.
