11th & 12th Information Session

            Junior/Senior Information Session

Check the JF website.    There is so much good information available on our webpage (counseling Dept., information, teacher webpages, daily announcements, senior information)

Use the Junior/Senior Planning Calendar. Available on JF website.  Great for helping you stay on track.

Use internet for college searches and planning- CollegeBoard.com is a good one

Follow our College Application Process.  Fill out a Transcript Release form for each transcript you want sent.  The first 5 transcripts are free, then there is a $5 charge. You must give your counselor 2 weeks’ notice to complete your applications.

Take advantage of the College and or Military visits at JF.     Many colleges and each branch of the military visit JF to meet with students throughout the year.  Visits will be announced and listed on the JF website. Signups will be in the counseling office; students must sign up prior to the day of the visit.

Sign up with the NCAA Eligibility Center.     IF you are an athlete that would like to play at the Division I or II level you must register with the Eligibility Center.   Enlist the help of your coach.

Seniors- meet with your counselor.    Counselors will meet individually with each senior this fall to go over graduation status and future plans.  Any student without postsecondary plans will be referred to our Career Coach (Susan Hogg) for further assistance.

Take a Career Inventory. Mrs. Hogg, our Career Coach will meet with all 10th and 12th grade English classes, they will complete a Career Inventory using the Virginia Wizard.  Once you create an account on the Wizard you may continue to use the site to access resume assistance, etc.

Start looking for scholarships now.  First thing all seniors should do is email Mrs. Watson (mwatson@bedford.k12.va.us) to be added to her Scholarship email group, they will receive updated information on all scholarship information we receive (usually these local scholarships)   Also check with employers for possible scholarships and go online to Fast web or College Board to check for national scholarship.

Juniors should take the PSAT.  Even if you took this as a sophomore you should take it again.  Scores from the junior year are the only ones used for the NMSQT Scholarship search Program.  It is also good practice before taking your first SAT later in the year.

Sign up for business /industry field trip.   Mrs. Hogg  organizes several fieldtrips each year.  Signups will be announced.
